Can you believe the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas was released over 20 years ago? It is true. It was released on Oct 24, 1993 in America.
Have you seen it? If not, What are you waiting for?
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a stop motion musical fantasy film produced/co-written by Tim Burton. Danny Elfman wrote the film score and provided the singing voice of Jack, as well as some other minor characters. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from “Halloween Town” who opens a portal to “Christmas Town” and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequences.
According to John Reeves from IMDB “Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween — but alas, they can’t get it quite right.”
It is part avant-garde art film and part amusing yet morbid fairy tale although for me it has a special message. A message of discovery and growth. Nightmare Before Christmas reminds me to never lose that childlike wonder or curiosity. It reminds me to never stop growing or looking for and noticing or experiencing things around you that you may have never noticed before or which are being introduced to you for the first time. There are many instances in the film, and in fact a whole scene, where Jack discovers many new things and sings “What’s this?” such as when he first discovers snow and snowflakes which apparently are not found in Halloween Town.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my all-time favorite movies and always makes me smile.

OMG! This is one of my favorite films too!! Love the story, the fantastic score by Danny Elfman, the incredible stop-motion animation, the catchy and clever songs, the quirky character design and stunning art direction, the equal doses of dark humor mixed with wondrous magic…(like the Making Xmas song) it’s such a gem of a film. Favorite characters? I love the whole ensemble cast of Halloween Town… too hard to pick! xoxox

I’m going to admit to something here and now… I’ve never seen this movie. I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch it, and I don’t know why. I remember all those years ago seeing the previews and thinking this was something I wanted to see, but the day it came out I just couldn’t pull the trigger and never have.
I might have to see if the library has it one of these days and borrow it to watch it. I’ve caught up on some movies from the past this year that I never saw and enjoyed almost all of them… almost that is lol

What? It is like I don’t even know you Sir!
Please tell me you have found it at the library by now or maybe on Netflix or Hulu or something? It is such an amazing movie! I would for sure say to find the DVD and see the extra behind the scenes footage as well. Amazing how they made this movie.
Do you like or are you at least familiar with Danny Elfman and / or Oingo Boingo?
Are you familiar with other Tim Burton movies?

I love nightmare before Christmas! I was watching it recently and noticed that in the end credits, PIXAR comes up! I was kind of amazed, and have been looking averywhere for any information on it. I’m struggling… If anyone finds anything, I’d love to hear it.

Interesting Luke. I checked IMDB and found:
Production Companies
Touchstone Pictures (presents)
Skellington Productions Inc. (copyright holder)
Tim Burton Productions (uncredited)
Walt Disney Pictures (3D version)
If I am not mistaken, Pixar is closely associated with Disney.
I did a quick little bit more and found that Thomas Hahn is a Software Engineer at Pixar Animation Studios as is Peter Nye and Thomas Shantzis. Their names appear in the credits.
Did you notice Steve Bartek did the orchestration? You know who he is right? He was in Oingo Boingo with Danny Elfman. http://www.1ksmiles.com/956-oingo-boingo/

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, Pixar has been close with Disney since forever and were eventually bought by them… Which interestingly put Steve Jobs on the board of directors, as he owned Pixar. It also got John Lasseter into his current position as head of Disney animation. But There is literally no mention of Pixar’s involvement in The Nightmare Before Christmas, besides the few names in the film’s credits. It says PIXAR and then their names… But I’m just really curious as to what they did. I’m a bit of a Disney and Pixar geek, so just found it interesting.
Ok, so don’t judge me, but I had to google Oingo Boingo… It’s interesting to see early Danny Elfman stuff though!
Last related fact… I was always surprised when Danny Elfman sang in film scores, as I always considered him the musician only… He is the singing voice of Jack skellingtons in NBC and sings a few songs in Tim Burtons Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. So Oingo Boingo kind of makes sense of that haha! Interesting.

Oh, got it Luke. So yeah, Steve Bartek was the guitarist in Oingo Boingo and if you look at a lot of Elfman’s work you will be gin to notice that Bartek did the orchestration.
If curious you can find Oingo Boingo stuff on YouTube. (What can’t you find there really?)
Was suggesting to the GF that we should watch Nightmare again soon. Now I am more motivated. Good stuff.
