#980 Hypnosis show has me smiling …and clucking like a chicken

When you come to Las Vegas there are a lot of entertainment options. I mean a lot. It is one of the reasons I moved here. I get bored and am easily amused. One of my favorite types of shows to see is a hypnosis show.

I mean there are the fantastic shows by Cirque Du Soleil which will put you back a hundred bucks or the newest show, ‘Absinthe‘ which is amazing but can also a bit pricey. There are a bunch of crappy shows too. My best bang for the buck is a good ol’ Vegas hypnosis stage show.

There are a few in town and I have seen them all several times. There is Anthony Cools over at Paris and Marc Savard at Planet Hollywood but my favorite is Kevin Lepine and his show Hypnosis Unleashed at the Goldman Theater located inside Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel. Tickets are super reasonably priced. I think he has some VIP packages which are cool too.

What is it about a hypnosis show? Is it the people clucking like chickens or barking like dogs? Is it when the people starting singing like Madonna or dancing like Michael Jackson? Or is it, in the case of Anthony’s show, when the people do simulated lewd acts with a chair? Yes. Yes. And yes. All of those things.

So what is hypnosis? Google tells us hypnosis is the induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction. It is often used in therapy, typically to recover suppressed memories or to allow modification of behavior by suggestion. Like if you want to improve your golf swing. Former Las Vegas hypnotist Michael Johns once told me it is just being really super relaxed and just going with the flow.

And that is what makes a live hypnosis stage show so much fun. It is different stars of the show each night.

When Brenna and I were seated in Kevin’s showroom at Hooters we looked around at all the people and wonder who is going to volunteer. And that is the cool part. You never know who it is going to be rushing up to take a seat on the stage. Since each person is different each night it is always a new experience.

They tell me in hypnosis you will never do anything you would not normally do. It is just that, like Michael Johns said, you just go with the flow and not really care. And since you become “highly responsive to suggestion” in hypnosis, if Kevin suggests you dance like Britney Spears then it seems like a good idea so why not?

Not only are the different audience members / volunteers different every night but so are the suggestions or segments of the show especially for each of the performers I have mentioned. I have been to Hypnosis Unleashed several times and have seen something different every night. It is not ‘scripted’ and the same every night like KA or Blue Man Group.

So next time you are in Las Vegas be sure to check out Hypnosis Unleashed starring Kevin Lepine …and You.

  1. Hey Troy,

So have you ever volunteered? I’ve been to some of these shows, not the Vegas one of course, and they are so darn funny. Luckily for me I’ve never been able to be hypnotized. I can’t relax enough in order for it to happen but that’s good for me for a show like this but for any other reason not so much.

Glad you had a good time.

    • Thanks for visiting Adrienne. Liked your post on that one thing on Twitter that irks me too.
Yes, I have volunteered at several hypno shows. I was onstage with Michael Johns as well as with Dr. Naughty several years before. It is not too bad. Fun actually but I LOVE being hypnotized so… But yeah, our egos can definitely keep us from being comfortable being a volunteer for the show.

  2. I would of love to attend this show. But in terms of volunteering to be hypnotize that a whole other subject. I am afraid of what i might do or revealed in front of an audience..lol..even though i do hear that even if you are in a hypnotic state, you can still choose what you want to listen to and do but i wouldn’t let it get that far..lol.

  3. Yes, that is the part that a lot of people are concerned with. I have a friend named Michael Johns is is a fantastic hypnotist. He would say, “You are completely aware of your surroundings, you are just so relaxed you do not care.”

    • You are like me… a hypnojunkie. And why not? It feels good doesn’t it?
Dr. Naughty? Wow. Yes, I knew Dr. Naughty II. I was on stage with him at Greek Isles about a decade ago. And Michael Johns? I was just chatting with him this morning. He is a good guy and has a hypnotherapy and motivational seminar business that he has started that is about to go through the roof!

  6. Great post , i think Hypnosis can bring those into conscious awareness and help the individual let go of painful or sad emotions associated with the hypnosis event and individual will be able to respond positively.

  7. I’ve never been to a hypnosis show before but have always been fascinated with the power of suggestion and subconscious mind. The idea of being vulnerable to the commands of another can seem a bit scary for some. Especially because of the amount of rumors and misconceptions of hypnosis. I like how you quoted Michael Johns as saying, that being hypnotized is,” just being really super relaxed and just going with the flow”. It’s that simple. A friend of mine just wrote an article on the truth and misconceptions of self-hypnosis for any who want to learn more. BTW this was a fun read! Now off to Vegas!!

  8. Great post! Haven’t seen Kevin, but keep meaning to go to Vegas and check some out. As a hypnotherapist, I know a few local stage hypnotists and have seen them several times, but have yet to see a big, crazy show. Considering how much fun the small ones are, I can’t even imagine how fun a big one is! Do you have any recommendations other than Kevin? I’ll probably catch a few. Thanks!
