#807 Indoor Concrete Flooring

There is something about a solid floor that makes me feel good and even puts a smile on my face. I don’t know if it is the look of the concrete with its smooth surface and grey tones, or the fact that it is one of the most secure flooring materials on the planet, but it just makes me feel good. Sure, I like a nice hardwood floor as it adds warmth to a home that no other material can give, but I think the strength and solid feel of concrete flooring will always be my first choice.

Many of us get introduced to concrete flooring during our school years and don’t even know it. As children, we are more concerned with what we are doing than what we are walking on. We don’t realize that there is a solid, storm proof, tornado proof and monster proof (we had Godzilla movies when I was young) floor right underneath us. Chances are, your elementary school is still standing and I’ll guess that the concrete flooring is still holding up.

We have seen concrete making its way into many modern homes and it has even been used on countertops and in architectural design features. But to see it used as indoor flooring is a real treat. Many people like their bamboo or cork flooring and that does have its purpose, but concrete gives your home a strength and beauty that no other flooring material can match. It can even be polished in a wide range of colors to suit your home’s décor or your personal preference.

I think if I were to build a home and I had an unlimited budget for flooring materials, I would avoid the marble, expensive Italian tiles and the exotic hardwoods that are all popular and, along with some bamboo flooring, go with something more simple and modern looking, like concrete. What do you think? Does the strength and beauty of an indoor concrete floor appeal to you or would you choose a sleek hardwood or deep shag carpet?

What do you think of concrete flooring, especially in your home? Leave a comment and share your opinion and experience. Would love to hear from you.
