#811 Starlight? Smile bright!

Twinkle, Twinkle Lots of Stars

Have you ever seen a really starry sky? A sky were there is so much starlight where there seems to be more star than sky? You know, the type of sky that looks impossibly real because it glitters and sparkles so brightly? Many people only get to see such starlight in pictures online or in print media, but I feel that it is something that everyone should experience first-hand for themselves. The sight is almost magical and is sure to bring a smile to your face as you realize just how much depth there is to our universe.

Are very starry skies only visible at certain times during the year when the night sky is at its darkest? Not necessarily; the reason many of us don’t see the starry skies is due to light pollution where we live. If you live anywhere near a big city, the light given off from that city will act as a filter and cloud your view of even the brightest stars and their starlight. To see a truly starry sky for yourself, you have to get away from the city and find a wide open space where it’s just you, nature and the stars above. Only then can see you this magical starlight sight.

The night sky will be aglow with millions of sparkling stars and you will feel so much smaller than you ever have in your life when you realize just how much is really “out there.” You don’t need a telescope, however, after viewing this spectacular sight, I know of many people that went out the very next day and purchased one, myself included. You will probably want to as well.

To see a starry night sky as beautiful as this, you just need your two eyes and some good friends along for company. Make it a night time road trip for you and your family; pile into the car, grab some blankets and flashlights and go out to the country or mountains. When you think you have gone far enough, go a little farther. Trust me, the view is well worth it.

Another thing I like about very starry skies is the long-exposure photography some people make. It looks so awesome.

If you have seen the night sky so full of stars that it looked almost unreal, you know what I am talking about. But for those of you that haven’t seen an incredibly starry sky, make a plan and go do it. The memories, and the smiles, will last a lifetime.

Do you go out to the desert or the mountains or somewhere to see the starlight? Where do you go? Leave a comment and share your opinion and experience. Would love to hear from you.

    • That is awesome Kim. Here in Las Vegas we have tons of light pollution yet just outside of town there is nothing but desolation so it makes star gazing much nicer.
I wonder what it looks like to a pilot flying at night?
Thanks for stopping by again Kim.

    • Oh yeah, I have not seen the Northern Lights. I hear that is amazing and kind of freeky at the same time.
So Mitch, you have never driven from a town to another town late at night? Where you live there seems to be a lot of open space but maybe the light is still too much. I dunno.
But right, anyway, the Northern Lights. The girly wants to make a holiday soon so maybe that should be on the list of adventures. Thanks for the idea.
