#830 Welcome home. A greeting that always makes me smile.

Work. Most of us have had to do it at some point and although some of us really like it, others don’t have quite the same affection for the daily grind. Whether you are a 9-5’r or you work the late shift, nothing’s better than punching that clock and going home for the night. Well, there is something better and I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks so.

No matter how much I love my job, when I get out of work, there is only one thing on my mind; getting home. Because I know when I get home from a long, hard day at work and I know I may be tired, mentally drained and sore, my girl is always there waiting to greet me with a cheerful “Welcome home” and make all of the stress from my day just melt away.

It doesn’t matter what kind of day I may have had, as long as she is there to greet me when I walk through the door, you can be sure you’ll see a big smile on my face. I’m not sure what specific part it is about having my partner greet me that makes me so happy. It could be her smile, her voice or just the warmth of a loved one who is always there for you; whatever it is, it gives me a good feeling all over.

I’ll even think about it throughout my day when I get overloaded with work or clients, coworkers and vendors eating away at every free minute that I have. For any of us, just the thought of a loved one being there waiting for us to get home and spend time with them is enough to make even the worst days manageable. That person may be a spouse, a parent, your pet pooch or a relative and it’s still the same feeling of warmth, happiness and emotion that we all seek.

The next time you are having a hard day at work, just remember who is waiting for you at home with that welcome home hug. Then when it’s time to punch out, a smile will begin to grow across your face and it will last all the way home until you see your loved one, waiting there for you with that welcome home greeting and that smile just takes over your entire body.

  1. This is so true, yet so many people take this for granted. I certainly did when I was in my darkest days at my day job and was consumed with stress. Instead of cheerfully greeting my SO when I got home, I’d grumble in all exhausted. I read somewhere how important it is to be cheerful when greeting anyone – whether it’s just in passing or leaving/arriving somewhere. It only takes a couple seconds to greet someone and if you do it poorly it can really turn things sour quickly. Now that I try and be more cheerful it’s made a world of difference! – Sydney
