#799 Raindrops on Roses

My friend Jimmy is in town and he relayed this story to me about how some raindrops on roses helped rekindle the missing romance from his life. I thought you would like it and perhaps it will bring a smile to your face and heart. Enjoy.

“It is often joked that once you get married you can kiss romance goodbye, I used to wonder why it was so until I found out first hand. I had been married for about 2 years when I started noticing it; the wife was growing distant and quiet and it had been months since we had some ‘us’ time alone. There was a lot going on at that time as I was busy with work and she was busy with our son who was only a few months old. We rarely had time for ourselves as we were always exhausted because of our engagements. And then it happened, something that allowed us to rekindle what we lost.

“Now it doesn’t rain a lot here but when it does, it rains cats and dogs. The load at work lessened and I had some free time and luckily my mother was visiting so our son was with her and that allowed us the perfect opportunity to spend some time together. As we needed some groceries we both went out and I planned to take her out for a lunch date afterwards. The shopping was pretty mundane as you would expect. After loading up our car with the supplies I proposed we go for lunch and started driving towards a café I had scouted out earlier. The place was packed and there were no spots open for our car so we had to park some distance away. While we were getting out I pulled out a pair of roses that I planned on giving to her. She was distracted with her new Apple iPhone when all of a sudden a drop of water hit her head, and then another one and one after it. Next thing we know it is sprinkling. We scrambled for some shelter which was just around the block and we managed to get away from the rain without getting too wet. And that’s when she noticed the roses which was wet from the raindrops which made them even more beautiful; she was surprised and wide eyed with a little bit of tears. She took the pair of roses and kissed me and for those few moments there was nothing in the world except us.

“In retrospect, I should have done something like that long ago but it was that particular moment that allowed me to pull it off smoothly and make it ten times better than it originally was, all because of that rain and those raindrops on roses that made the flowers more beautiful than they already were. It is times like these that makes us realize that it is important to just take some time for ourselves with our loved one. Make time if you’re busy. Work is important but your significant other is more important. Romance never dies no matter where you are in a relationship unless you let it. It is always there in grand gestures as marriage proposal or small mundane ones as giving the last of the pizza to your partner. It took me a while to realize that.

All it took was some raindrops on roses.”
