#790 Schnitzel with noodles

It sure is nice to have my old friend Jimmy in town. Last night I took him to Capo’s, one of my favorite Las Vegas restaurants. He has shared with me so many lovely stories about things that have made both him and me smile over the years.

Let’s see if I can paraphrase Jimmy’s story here…

“We all have someone in our lives that we love, someone special that makes us feel like we’re the luckiest person on Earth. They inspire us to be better, they provide us support when we need it, they accept us for who and what we are and most importantly they love us. We’re prepared to sacrifice everything in our lives for them, just to see them happy and they’re willing to do the same. I had a similar experience like that once, though the only thing that was sacrificed was just time and money, and required a whole lot of patience. Looking back to it, especially after what I got in return, I’d do it again a thousand times.

“My girlfriend and I had been seeing each other for a long time back then, her birthday was coming up and I wanted to do something special and intimate for her. The easiest choice would be to just buy her something that she wanted but I wasn’t going for easy, I wanted something intimate, something that I put an effort in. Luckily it was a weekend and I was home alone that day, and that meant I had the time, energy and the place to prepare. Now prior to this event, we were both a bit busy with our jobs, and I remembered that she was talking about spending some time together, just the two of us. So using that as a starting point, I began brainstorming on what to do that not only would be something special for her birthday, but will also count as spending time together. Then it hit me, a candle lit dinner would be perfect, but there was a problem as I couldn’t cook much. I went on the internet for ideas and tutorials and I found a recipe that I thought I could make and that was schnitzel with noodles. A quick trip to the grocery store and about a dozen tutorial videos later, there I was in the middle of my kitchen attempting to make schnitzel with noodles for our dinner that night. I made a small test batch to see how it turned out and thankfully it was a success, I let my girlfriend know about dinner but didn’t give her the whole new, jut that there was a surprise waiting for her. After cleaning and getting the place ready, I still had a few minutes to spare in which I took my iPod and made a playlist of all of her favorite romantic songs as a gift. She arrived some time later and to say that I was nervous would be a monumental understatement. But luckily she loved the food, and the playlist and thanked me for it, all in all it was great time spent.

“If I hadn’t learnt to make that schnitzel with noodles, then I would never have conquered my fears and I would have ended up making a present that would not have been so good, and she would not have liked it. But I’m glad I did it, because I was able to do something nice for the woman that makes me feel like the luckiest guy on Earth.”

Thank you Jimmy for sharing these stories with me and for allowing me to share them with the 1KSmiles readers. You rock!
