#992 Lectures with no sales pitch are refreshing

I go to a lot of webinars, seminars, conferences, shows and the like and one thing most of them have in common is the sales pitch at the end. Often times they will tell you just enough then hit you with, “And for just $999 you can buy this DVD package to tell you all the details we left out.”

I have even been to Las Vegas shows that I paid good money to see where toward the end of the show the performer will stop and give you the sales pitch informing you he will be by the exit if you want to say hello and buy a DVD of his show.

It is refreshing to go to a lecture or a presentation where there is no sales pitch and nothing to buy. Last night I did just that and it made me smile. So much so I want to quickly tell you about them. The basic idea of GiveGetWin, the group putting on this lecture is that providers generously agree to make their very valuable products and services available for purchase at insanely good rates with all the proceeds going to charity. The website says this about the lecture: “In Just A Single Afternoon, Make Brilliant Creative and Ambitious Friends, Understand The Opportunities The Changing World Presents, and Rapidly Acquire the Skills to Lead a Remarkable Life On Your Own Terms.”

Did they accomplish that? Yes. Was there a sales pitch? No.

They had several speakers. There was Zach Obront. When he’s not working on charity deals, he builds brands at Story Ark, runs a small telecommunication startup, teaches productivity as a top Udemy instructor, and writes at ZachObront.com. There was Kai Zau who is a believer in constant improvement and flexible rules. He uses design and code to experiment with these philosophies. Simplicity is a virtue, and his instinct is to simplify everything that he works with. You can find him at KaiZau.com. There was Josef Wasinski, an Elite level powerlifter, ex-national level rugby player and the experience architect at GiveGetWin. He’s passionate about creating captivating customer experiences that build real brands and businesses. He is at JosefWasinski.com. And let’s not forget Special Guest Jolly. So why do I tell you about these folks? Because they walk the walk and talk the talk. They are trying to do good work in the world and make it a better place. And they did not have a sales pitch. I kept waiting for it but it never came.

The whole production was put on by Sebastian Marshall who is the Director at GiveGetWin. and his blog, SebastianMarshall.com, has been read by over 500,000 people, including funded startup founders, nonprofit directors, progressive managers, writers, artists, skilled professionals, attorneys and physicians, freelancers, and engineers…and me.

I am not going to try to sell you on them. I will save you the sales pitch. That would sort of go opposite of what this post is supposed to be about. Their lack of asking me to reach into my pocket and give them my cash was refreshing. They are still going to be touring into Austin, Raleigh, Washington D.C., New York City, Boston, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Lansing and Chicago. Their event is free and not lame. I would recommend you go if you can.

They were giving. They gave and asked nothing in return. That is what they said they were going to do. They did it. That makes me smile.
