The Beauty of Realistic Fake Plants
Sitting in a restaurant a couple of weeks ago, I found myself marveling at how well their plants looked. There were a lot of them and not a lot of sunlight in the restaurant. Of course my entrepreneur mind started turning and I started thinking about what it would take to start a business to take care of plants in establishments such as offices, shops and restaurants. Or imagine being the Casino Plant Guy in Las Vegas. It’s a good gig if you can get it right?
Personally I like having plants around me and in my home as I enjoy the serenity they offer and the feeling I get when I walk into a room filled with greenery. My plants at home never looked as good as the plants in that restaurant so I just had to ask them what they did to keep their plants looking so lush and healthy. (Besides it is hard to keep many plants alive and thriving when you live in an area where the average temperature is in the triple digits five months out of the year with humidity in the high teens.)
I called the hostess over and asked her if she knew what they fed the plants and how often they watered them. She snickered a little and explained to me that the plants weren’t real, they were indeed, realistic looking fake plants! I was fooled by a fake plant and a very good looking one at that!
The hostess then grabbed one of the plants down from its perch and offering it to me for inspection. It looked so much like a real plant, but upon actually touching it, I could finally tell the difference. Whatever form of neo-plastic magic this was, I had to have one! Immediately after finishing my meal, I had already jumped on their free WiFi and visited Amazon to see what I could buy.
I found a six foot silk Ficus tree, as well as a 11 inch bamboo house plant from IKEA and a nearly four foot Bamboo silk plant but my favorite of all the realistic fake plants was a trio of cacti. Very cool and appropriate for life in the desert. Come to find out, there are tons of cool looking fake plants on Amazon. It seems the best looking fake plants are made out of silk so stick with those.
Fast forward about a week…
I absolutely love my fake plants! I walk into the room and there they are in all of their green glory. I don’t have to weed or water them and the only care they need is a good dusting once in a while. They don’t even need direct sunlight so I can put them anywhere in the house without trying to create a special ops-style placement strategy to get the most sunlight without too much.
In my dream home I would live to have a large tree inside but let’s be realistic right? Maybe a fake one would be better?
My home now looks as if Theophrastus is my roommate. If you are not up on your ancient Greek history, Theophrastus was a student of Aristotle who invented and described many of botany’s principles and is regarded as the “Father of Botany”. Yeah, that guy. The more you know.
Sure, real plants are better for the air quality in your home, but take a look at some of these realistic fake plants and I’m sure you’ll want them in your home as well.

Why not start with this lovely realistic looking 11 inch house bamboo by IKEA?
Wow, to be honest if it wasn’t your post title I would have never guessed these plants are fake, they look so natural and adorable. I also have fake plants at home, mainly roses and they create a great homy atmosphere for true.

Right? There are some beautiful artificial plants out there. They do indeed look so good you can hardly tell they are fake plants at all.

Though I’ve never bought any, I’d have to go with you on the colorful fake plants. Those things always look pretty cool, but I have no idea where to put anything like that. My wife has tried growing regular plants, but doesn’t seem to have a green thumb. lol

You could put a fake plant anywhere you would put a real one. If you do ever get some artificial plants Mitch, I recommend those made of silk. They tend to look best I think.

Artificial plants are not affected by changes in seasons. They always stay as they are, even with very little care
