Yesterday Brenna and I had that talk that many couples have…
“Who is your celebrity crush?” she asked.
“Guy or girl?”
“Girl silly! But since you brought it up… what about guys too? Wait. What? You have a celebrity crush on a guy?”
“Yeah. Guys are easy for me” I replied. “My celebrity crush is Anderson Cooper. Or Daniel Craig. As far as girls go that is a little tougher. There are so many beautiful female celebrities it is hard to choose just one celebrity crush. I would say I find Penelope Cruz really attractive. Or Eva Green is super sexy as is Lucy Liu. Jordana Brewster too. But I think the winner, yes the winner would definitely be…”

Urban Dictionary defines Celebrity Crush as: ‘someone famous one finds immensely desirable / attractive / sexy and, if given the chance, would be more than happy to sleep with.’

Relationship consultant Dr. Terri Orbuch says, “Who we are attracted to as a crush says something about who we are attracted to in general.”

So I thought it would be fun to look a little at those I would consider a celebrity crush and see if together we came come up with a pattern. Reader dear reader? Let’s go…

Penélope Cruz, born April 28, 1974, is a Spanish actress and model. Signed by an agent at age 15, she made her acting debut at 16 on television and her feature film debut the following year in Jamón, jamón, to critical acclaim. Her subsequent roles in the 1990s and 2000s included Open Your Eyes, The Hi-Lo Country, The Girl of Your Dreams and Woman on Top. Cruz achieved recognition for her lead roles in the 2001 films Vanilla Sky and Blow. She is 5’6″
She is married to Javier Bardem who starred in Skyfall along with Daniel Craig. There is talk Penelope Cruz may be the next Bond Girl opposite Daniel Craig. So you know that makes me smile.

Raven-haired beauty Jordana Brewster was born in Panama City, Panama on April 26, 1980. Her father is American-born, and has English and Scottish ancestry, while her mother is Brazilian-born. Jordana was raised in London, England up until the age of six when her family decided to move back to her mother’s native Rio de Janeiro. Jordana learned to speak fluent Portuguese during her 4 year stay in Rio de Janeiro. At the age of ten, Jordana’s family moved to Manhattan where Jordana studied at Sacred Heart all-girl Catholic school before moving on to the New York Professional Children’s School. Jordana began to make a name for herself by appearing in two of daytime television’s longest-running soap operas, All My Children and As the World Turns. 1998 marked her big-screen debut as “Delilah Profitt” in the teen-driven film, The Faculty. However, it was her role as “Mia Toretto” in the blockbuster hit The Fast and the Furious that led her to reach Hollywood stardom. Jordana graduated Yale University in 2003. She is 5’7″

Eva Green was born on July 5, 1980, in Paris, France. She has a non-identical twin sister. Her father, Walter Green, is a dentist who appeared in the 1966 film Au Hasard Balthazar. Her mother, Marlène Jobert, is an actress who retired from acting and became a writer of children’s books. Eva’s mother was born in Algeria, of Sephardi Jewish heritage (during that time, Algeria was part of France), and Eva’s father is of Swedish and French descent. Eva left French school at 17. She switched to English in Ramsgate, Kent, and went to the American School in France for one year. She studied acting at Saint Paul Drama School in Paris for three years, then had a 10-week polishing course at the Weber Douglas Academy of dramatic Art in London. She also studied directing at the Tisch School of Arts at New York University. She starred opposite Daniel Craid in the James Bond film Casino Royale. She is 5’6″

Born to immigrants in Queens, New York, Lucy Liu has always tried to balance an interest in her cultural heritage with a desire to move beyond a strictly Asian-American experience. Lucy’s mother is from Beijing, and her father is from Shanghai. Once relegated to “ethnic” parts she is earning her stripes as an across-the-board leading lady.

Lucy graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1986 and enrolled in New York University; discouraged by the “dark and sarcastic” atmosphere of NYU, she transferred to the University of Michigan after her freshman year. She graduated from UM with a degree in Chinese Language and Culture, managing to squeeze in some additional training in dance, voice, fine arts, and acting. During her senior year, Liu auditioned for a small part in a production of Alice in Wonderland and walked away with the lead. She moved to Los Angeles and split her time between auditions and food service day jobs, eventually scoring a guest appearance as a waitress on Beverly Hills, 90210, NYPD Blue, ER, The X-Files and Pearl.

Lucy first appeared on the big screen as an ex-girlfriend in Jerry Maguire. She had previously filmed a scene in the indie Bang, but it was shelved for two years. She then waded through a series of supporting parts in small films before landing her big break on Ally McBeal which is whee I first remember seeing her. She is 5’3″
