#958 Classic Sesame Street videos still make me smile

For some reason some things just get stuck in my head. Sort of like that song asking who let the dogs out or the one that tries to teach us how big or in this case, how small the world is. After all, it is a small, small world.

You are welcome.

Anyway, today I am talking about some classic Sesame Street videos. There are a few videos from Sesame Street that somehow and for some reason have stuck with me over all these years. Like that Small Small World song.

One was “There’s a Hole in the Bucket.”

This a traditional children’s song where Henry (played by Jim Henson) is about to fetch a bucket of water from his well but realizes that his bucket has a hole. His wife Liza (voiced by Rita Moreno), explains how to fix it, but she grows frustrated with having to tell him everything he needs to do. Seems a stick is too big and Henry does not know how to deal with this. Seems his knife is too dull and Henry does not know how to deal with this either. Henry has all these issues and it is obvious Liza is the brains in the unit.

I guess this video stuck with me because it reminded me of my grandparents. My Grand Pappy, who I spoke of in an earlier post, always got the job done, but never came off to me as the brightest in the room.

There was this one directed by Paul Kyriazi about a boy playing in the bath tub with a toy tugboat. The video is pretty cool. As a boy plays with a tugboat in the bathtub, we watch footage of a real tugboat. It keeps cutting back and forth showing how his imagination was imitating reality. Check it out. Paul Kyriazi directed six feature films including ‘Omega Cop’ starring Adam ‘Batman’ West & Stuart Whitman, plus documentaries and travelogues. He produced his novels ‘McKnight’s Memory’ & ‘Rock Star Rising’ as full-cast audio-books with Rod Taylor, Robert Culp, Russ Tamblyn, George Chakiris, Nancy Kwan, James Darren, Edd Byrnes, Henry Silva, Alan Young & Frank Sinatra Jr. Paul created the original ‘How to Live the James Bond Lifestyle’ taught at The Learning Annex & SpyFest, now expanded for 2012 on Kindle. You can get his audio books here.

The thing with this video is I remember it aired on Thanksgiving. On this particular episode they talked about the death of Mr. Hooper. This was a big deal for the residents of Sesame Street and pretty traumatic for Thanksgiving Day.

This will win you a drink some day… Mr. Hooper’s first name was Harold.

You’re welcome.

Finally there was a video of a Pastry Chef decorating a cake. I don’t know what it is about this one. He just looks like he is having so much fun.

Would have been better if he made some tiramisu and got the kids all amped up on the world’s greatest dessert but still.

I hope you enjoyed these videos and they made you smile like they do for me.

  2. Hi Troy,

Your post brought back good old memories 🙂

Yes, we used to see a lot of Sesame Street videos too long back, and there’s a hole in my bucket was a lovely one, something we enacted when we were in school too. But as life goes on, I’m certainly out of touch now, though my kids take over instead.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    • I try to never lose that feeling of childhood where it was full of wonder and discovery …and smiles. I wish for you the same.
