#947 An empty row on the airplane

Many times when I get on an airplane we are so crammed in like sardines it is almost painful. But every once in a while I get on a flight where there is an entire empty row on the airplane all to myself. A couple weeks ago on my return flight from Phoenix I had a whole row to myself but on such a short flight there was not much time to enjoy it.

Through much of the 90’s I traveled between Frankfurt and Larnaca every 90 days. Larnaca is not a common destination for people from Germany so often times I would get an entire row to myself. Because I made the trip so often the flight attendants recognized me each flight and treated me really well. I would get extra peanuts or unlimited access to the drinks cart. But the thing I liked the most was having an empty row all to myself. I would put the arm rests up and use the whole row of seats as my personal couch.

I love flying. Not much makes me happier. Whether I choose to take a nap or read the latest James Bond novel having my own empty row on the airplane always makes me smile.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign. If you haven’t already done so, please stow your carry-on luggage underneath the seat in front of you or in an overhead bin. Please take your seat and fasten your seat belt. And also make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position. This is gonna be one interesting flight.”
