Thank you to Jessica from Atlanta for this Guest Post. I love it when readers send in stories and posts about what makes them smile. That makes me smile.

“One of the very best things in life is watching your children go out there and achieve something. These are those moments when you know you’ve succeeded in life. I come from humble beginnings, had a pretty simple and straight forward childhood. Teen years were pretty tame as well except for the occasional house party. After graduation I moved onto college after which I moved to the city and got a well paying city job. Life was good, then I met this amazing man and I asked him out. We dated for a year when he asked me to marry him and now we live with our twin daughters.

“While it all sounds great when you put it that way, the reality was far different. Because while I had achieved to many what is a perfect life, sometimes it just did not seem good enough. Like there was still something more that was just out of reach.

“My daughter’s were in school when their recital came up in which they were selected to play a part. I was ecstatic for them, they were enjoying things I didn’t and I was beyond happy for them. Eventually came the day of the recital, and I will be honest that I was pretty nervous. My daughters’ part was a little in to the play and that fact did not help to make me calm down a little, I tried focusing on the recital itself and that helped a little in distracting me. Then my daughters’ part came up, I was a nervous wreck at that point but as soon my eyes fell upon them all of that nervousness, all of the bad thoughts I had in my head just faded away. My daughters were wearing white dresses with blue satin sashes and where SO adorable. They performed their part perfectly, and in that moment I realized that life was not so empty; that despite what I was feeling for a long time I had raised my girls the best I could and they would grow up to become successful and strong women.

“Sometimes that’s all you need, no matter how bad things look, and you feel like a failure, always remember that there’s something worth fighting for. That day filled me with hope, and with that I had new energy and resolve to fight those thoughts in my head. From the support of my family and friends, and those cute little girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, I knew everything was going to be fine. I just needed to be reminded of something that was worth fighting for, that I had done something right and all it took to remind me were my girls in white dresses with blue stain sashes on that stage.”
