Living in the desert I do not see that much snow. In fact, many of my friends who do not live in Las Vegas tease me when I say how cold it is at times. “Dude, it is all the way down to 50 degrees there? Alert the media!” Yeah, it is all fun and games but the reason I live in the desert is because I simply do not like the cold. The challenge is that Las Vegas is the ‘high desert’ and please keep your recreational marijuana jokes to a minimum folks. This is a family blog.
Because Las Vegas is in the high desert, it does get cold and does snow from time to time.
Wikipedia says snow is precipitation in the form of flakes of crystalline water ice that falls from clouds and that snowflakes are either a single ice crystal or an aggregation of ice crystals which fall through the Earth’s atmosphere. They begin as snow crystals which develop when microscopic supercooled cloud droplets freeze. They go on to say that snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. You knew that though right? Complex shapes emerge as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity regions. Individual snowflakes are almost always unique in structure.
Whenever I do want to enjoy some snow, just about an hour away is the Mt. Charleston Resort and there is plenty of places there to play in the snow.
One of the coolest parts of playing in the snow (pun intended) is when the snow falls and the snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes. I can feel the weight on the water on the skin and hair and it feels pretty neat.
It might be the novelty of it though. My uncle lives in Wisconsin and it snows there a lot. I mean A LOT! yep, no thanks. I will stick to the desert and whenever I want to feel those snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes I will just head up to Mt. Charleston and get my snowflakes…and my smiles…there.
Do you live in a place where t snows much? Did you actually choose that lifestyle or do you stay there because of work or family? Leave a comment and share your opinion and experience. Would love to hear from you.

I live in a snowy place. But your photos are great! Especially Las Vegas in the snow. That’s cool!
We do not get snow here in Las Vegas very often…unless you count the ski resort about an hour away…but I do not think that counts.

Hi, I live in Rhode Island and we just had a blizzard last weekend. We ended up with 19 inches of snow. We have 4 seasons here I lived here my whole life. I guess you can say that I stay here because of family. As you get older, the snow is not as enjoyable except around Christmas. Very nice article. Thanks for sharing!
